General
- Great organization
- Email and forum are very effective methods
- Contact list of both emails and phone numbers is also very helpful. Phone numbers really help in emergency situations.
- It was good that the theme is broad as it reaches out to many different peoples. Having the student council making suggestions for the theme and having the student body voting on the theme is proved to be quite effective. This year’s theme allowed the celebration of many cultures. I saw costumes from Japan, Korea, China, Scotland, Sweden, Britain, India, and so many different countries around the world. The costumes were a good reflection of the diversity of students’ backgrounds in our school.
- Need a lost and found at the gala.
Decoration
- Decorations were awesome.
- The globe and the streamers were very impressive.
- Asian themed corner was gorgeous.
- Balloon drop didn’t work out.
- Silhouettes were effective in helping to create the theme’s atmosphere. More work on the silhouettes would have been ideal. It’s always nice when the walls are embellished with works of art.
- Centrepieces were amazing.
- Maps were a nice touch to the tables.
Food
- Food was great.
- Didn’t like the bread.
- Chip bags too large, and should be put into bowls.
- Sushi was highly popular.
- Samosas came late, but were delicious.
- Desserts were perfectly delicious; loved the chocolate, croissants and fortune cookies. Wish I had eaten more.
- Pixie sticks effectively raised the energy level of the gala. They also serve to make the tables more colourful. I believe there were less pixie-sticks this year, which is good, as we didn’t throw as many of them out as we did last year.
- Concession stand was quite popular. With good organization, it has the potential to raise considerate amount of money for the council.
Entertainment
- Dress rehearsal really paid off
- Trombone fanfare was effective and captured audiences’ attention. We should have another trombone/trumpet do a fanfare for next year. It could be a new gala tradition.
- It was good to have a short (fifteen minutes) of full attention performances and the rest background performances.
- Didn’t see the trivia and thus cannot comment on it.
- Good balance between musical and dramatic performances.
- The sound and speakers were well balanced this year and performers are well heard.
- Drama performers cannot make good use of the microphones and would thus have to rely on their own natural projection.
- It was good having many people supervising the stage. For next year, we should have three stage managers with at least one technician.
- The transitions between performances were tighter this year, and can be further improved next year.
- Chess tournament was superbly popular as usual.
- Need more chess sets.
- Difficult to supervise such a crowded area. It might be a good idea to have teachers to help with supervision.
- The set up of the tournament was good in that it was one single vertical row and table. It saved space and made walking around easy.
- No chess pieces were lost.
- Not all the owners reclaimed their chess sets after the gala.
- Dance was a good length (1.5 hours)
- Technical difficulties with the DJ system.
